March 20 marks the official start of spring, and at The Link Minneapolis, we are SO ready for it. Say “good riddance” to winter and make the most of the new season with these must-have items to help ensure you’re ready for all the spring fun, adventure, and weather in the Minneapolis area.
You Need a Mid-Weight Jacket & Slush-Proof Footwear
As the temperatures begin to rise above freezing, snowfall turns to rain and the ground turns to slush which can linger for some time. Make sure you have a good mid-weight jacket that will keep you warm – but not overheated – while you’re outdoors. Go for high style at Hazel + Rose on Sixth Street, more budget-friendly options at Target in Dinkytown, or you can find both technical and fashionable outerwear at REI in Roseville. And while you’re there, get a pair of slush-proof shoes, too. Of course, basic rain boots will get the job done, but you can opt for a pair with a little more flair like the waterproof Sorel Emelie Zip Booties or the Madson 6” WP 2 Boots.
Get a Minnesota State Park Vehicle Permit
Spring’s warming weather will hopefully inspire you to get outdoors and soak in the incredible natural beauty that surrounds you (there are actually more than 10,000 lakes!). Buy an annual vehicle permit for $35 that provides unlimited visits to all 75 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for 12 months after the date of purchase. Day passes cost $5 each, so why not save yourself time and money with the annual pass? You can purchase it online or at any Minnesota state park self-serve kiosk or office. If you really love the state parks (or just really hate windshield stickers), get the Minnesota state parks and trails specialty license plate, which doubles as your park permit for a year – no sticker required. Then get out there and enjoy. One of our favorite hikes is about an hour northeast of The Link, along the St. Croix River to Taylors Falls at Interstate State Park
Update Your Twins or Gophers Team Gear
Does your old Twins or Goldy gear have a few stubborn mustard stains? Or do you need to say farewell to your Eddie Rosario jersey now that he’s been traded? Head to the Coffman Memorial Union on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus or shop online for a great selection of the latest apparel. You can also find local team swag in most sporting goods and department stores around Minneapolis, and Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Crossroads Center of Roseville has a great selection. Whether you’re cheering from the stands or your living room, you’ll always look like your team’s number one fan.
